Tous les anglo-saxons connaissent la folle histoire d’Elwood P. Dowd et de son ami extraordinaire, Harvey, que les autres ne voyaient pas...
En 1944, la jeune journaliste Mary Chase, après une première pièce à l’accueil mitigé, crée Harvey, sa seconde pièce.
Un succès immense, un triomphe
La pièce a obtenu le Prix Pulitzer en 1945 et a été jouée plus de 1500 fois, pendant 5 ans. Elle a été adaptée pour le cinéma, la télévision et des reprises sont faites régulièrement à New York, Londres, Berlin…
Mais, étonnamment, Harvey reste presque inconnu du public français... jusqu'à ce que Laurent Pelly et Agathe Mélinand aient eu l'idée géniale d'adapter ce texte magnifique. Ce drôle de conte, cette farce désopilante, loufoque et un brin acerbe.
Un cocktail explosif !
Mary Chase joue à l’équilibriste et nous promène dans tous les sens, mélange comique, fantaisie et poésie, en empruntant à Lewis Carroll, son lapin et à La Vie est belle de Frank Capra (1946), sa délicatesse. Agathe Mélinand, adaptation
Qui est donc Harvey, ce lapin invisible, autoritaire et bougon ?
Le rêveur Elwood vit une vie « à côté » et ne veut rien d’autre que d’emmener Harvey boire un verre, chez Charlie, où ils ont leurs habitudes…
Jacques Gamblin, avec cette immense part d’enfance, de poésie, de charme... et presque de noirceur, dans cette comédie grinçante sur la différence, nous fait rire, nous émeut et nous surprend.
Un conte...presque pour enfant, mêlé d'une belle comédie de boulevard

Cette pièce très drôle, un peu folle et bouleversante avec une scénographie superbe et particulièrement ingénieuse de Chantal Thomas, nous fait naviguer entre burlesque, folie et générosité. Immanquable ! Avis de Foudart 🅵🅵🅵
